Review: L'Oreal False Lash Flutter Mascara.

Hey Guys!

please be sure to visit my new blog fionabrianne.blogspot.co.uk

Time for another review!
You guys will remember I reviewed the Sleek BB cream last year, which I loved so I thought that I'd show you something else I have been adoring!

L'Oreal launched a new mascara at the beginning of February, which I had to pick up (I bought this mascara in February as well); so I have tested it out for about two months to give you guys the most honest review I can.
The mascara is called the False Lash Flutter.
I've reviewed this online on Youtube, so if you want to watch, the link is at the bottom of this page!

The mascara- so what does it ACTUAL do?
On the L'Oreal website, the mascara claims to 'extends the look of lashes towards the outer eye without clumps' by using  a 'double winged butterfly brush together with Cocoon fibres'
So this mascara claims to...
*extend outer lashes
*apply without clumping
*lengthen lashes overall.

So, when reviewing this have taken these three things into account, as well as the packaging, formula, price and application.

The price/ Where to buy?
I bought this mascara at my local Boots store for £9 ( I used some of my Advantage points) but it retails in the UK for £10.99 at both main beauty stores ( Boots and Superdrugs)
Personally, I find £10.99 for a 'drugstore' mascara a little on the pricey side, especially since I have found great ones for under £8, and also because mascaras are only suppose to be used for 3 months!

The packaging
Lets be honest.
The packaging is bea-u-tiful!
I was first attracted to the mascara chilling on the shelf by the fact that it is mirrored and has that cool long oval shape which is quite common with most L'Oreal mascaras. It also has thin black lines which look like the detail on butterfly wings, which I think is a cute addition.
But in reality, it really doesn't work for me.
Firstly the mirrored effect is great but it comes off as looking quite cheap; it also has that 'cheap sound' when you tap your nails against it. To be honest, I've learned to live with it, but I would have liked to it feel a little sturdier.
Secondly, because the packaging is shiny, if your fingers are slightly wet, greasy or dirty from makeup, it smudges all over the handle and is a PAIN! to remove, if almost impossible. I'm weird; I need my mascara wands to be immaculate!
Also, the design of the mascara is not at all ergonomic.
er·go·nom·ics
1. (used with a sing. verb) The applied science of equipment design, as for the workplace, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort.
The straight edge of the handle is designed for you to rest your thumb on, but because the handle itself is too long, I find that the end digs into my hand, causing my to hold it off centre.
How I want to hold the mascara( see the end of the handle is resting against my hand)
How I end up holding the mascara

The formula
If you don't like 'wet' mascaras, you may not like this one. In my opinion, this has a 'slighty wet' formulation, where there is a higher level of wetness, which I'd class as 'extremley wet'. If you like the Maybelline mascaras, Id say that this was one stage up in terms of wetness.
Personally, I didn't have a problem with the wetness because this mascara dries extremely quickly, which means that I spend less time fanning my face, which is a plus especially if I am in a rush.
It also has the 'medical/cosmetic' like smell, which again I like, but you may not!

The application
Apart from the fact that the handle design makes me hold this mascara is such a strange way, the application is really easy. Once the brush is pulled out of the tube, it is loaded with enough product to use as one coat on your lashes. Personally, I like to use the smaller bristles first to coat my lashes and then the special butterfly side as a a finishing effect.

Lasting Power
The lasting power of this, I have to say, is the best I have come across so far with every mascara I have ever tried ( including my beloved Maybelline, even the Rocket!)
In the video review, I had the mascara on a total of 12.5 hours ( one full day!) and I didn't find myself reapplying, sorting out clumps or experiencing the product running down my face. The hold of the curl was great, although it slumped a little at the end of the day, but apart from that, fantastic!

Three key points

*extend outer lashes
Yes! My lashes are super small and thin, and although my outer and inner lashes are shorter than the lashes in the middle of my eye, I did notice a huge difference. The mascara pulls your lashes outwards and separates beautifully!

*apply without clumping
As shown in my video diary for the day,( linked below) after 12 hours! there was only one or two small clumps on my bottom lashes, but my top lashes were clump free. When applied, the brush also stopped any clumps from forming, probably because it dries super fast.

*lengthen lashes overall.
Again, I found that my lashes did look much longer, and since I am a glasses wearer, length is everything!

Overall THOUGHTS
I LOVE this.
It has everything I need in a mascara. Not only does it last extra long, it holds curl and pulls out even the smallest of lashes easily.
The only letdown really is the packaging and perhaps the price.

 *9/10*

Soap and Glory Hand Food DUPE?! Thoughts and Review

HEY GUYS!
please be sure to visit my new blog fionabrianne.blogspot.co.uk
I finally have a review up for you guys, its definitely been a while.

Before you read, why not check out the video first linked down below!?
Soap and Glory Hand Food DUPE?! Thoughts and Review ♥

If you have been following me for a long time, you will know that I love the Soap and Glory Hand Food hand cream- its my all time favourite product! However the other day I ran out and I had to quickly buy a back up because hand cream is a must for me, and I managed to find a DUPE!

Along Came Betty Hand cream is the perfect dupe for the famous Soap and Glory cream; of course there are a couple differences, but you really cant go wrong!

S&G Hand Food(left) Along Came Betty Cream(right)

The Story
Soap and Glory
The most obvious thing about Soap and Glory is its tribute to homemakers, pin up girls and all things 1950's. Almost every tube, bottle, palette has some kind of black and white picture of a 1950's woman; even the names of the products refer back to the 50's

Along Came Betty
I am almost positive that Tesco had S&G in mind when creating ACB because the concept is exactly the same. ACB products also feature black and whites and creative names for their products- definitely not a coincidence.

The Scent
Soap and Glory
This cream has a heavier and thicker scent that lasts a lot longer both in tube and on the hands( I can only describe it as a sweet and fluffy smell!?!) This is due to the content of Shea butter, macadamia oil( which is great for anti ageing and scar healing) and marshmallow!( yum!)If you don't want anyone to know that you have just used a hand cream, stay away from this one!
Along Came Betty
It is safe to say that this cream has the lightest fragrance of the two, but the smell itself isn't at all special. This cream only contains Shea butter, so once applied to the hands the smell almost melts away!

The Packaging
Soap and Glory
The Hand food has a classic tubing which is a pretty barbie pink colour. The theme is a creamy yellow and pink with silver, black and white trimmings. The font is nicely bold and quite simple which makes it chic but attractive at the same time.
Distribution is made easier because the cap has two holes which make the cream easier to control.
Along Came Betty
I'm a sucker for PRETTY!, so when I saw the pink bow on this cream, I had to get it! Like the S&G, the theme is made up of mostly a yellow and a pink, also with white and black writing. I love the extra mint trimmings for the obvious reason that that is my favourite colour! The font is not as bold, but very standard and generic looking.
One thing I don't like about the packaging is that the distribution hole is a little too big so the product tends to squirt out, I find it kind of hard to control.

Even though Along Came Betty has a shiny logo and a cute bow detailing, I have to say I prefer the S&G because it is noticeable but chic and slick at the same time.

The Consistency

Soap and Glory
S&G has a  nice medium/ thick consistency, which has a great silky quality- it is also non greasy, which the tubing claims to be anyway. I find that it is super easy to blend into hands and it leaves mine feeling refreshed. This cream usually lasts about half a day before I would think to reapply
Along Came Betty
ACB has a thinner consistency which isn't that noticeable- what I don't like to much is that it feels a little clumpy and is definitely not as silky as S&G. Also, it is a tad greasy which id great in the winter, but not in the summer when your hands are already greasy enough! It blends well also, but I feel that I have to reapply about 3 times a day to get a daily coverage.

The Price

Both of the creams are surprisingly the same price, even though Along Came Betty is a 75ml tube whereas S&G is only 50ml. They both cost £2.50 ( ACB is actually £2.49 to be precise)

 Where to purchase

Soap and Glory
Hand Food can be found at any Boots store in the UK,usually sitting with its S&G, just head for a bright pink stand. It can also be bought on Ebay ( if you are lucky). If you are a US fan, it can be purchased from Sephora instore or online at sephora.com
BUY IT HERE:(larger size)
Along Came Betty
ACB is a beauty, because it is a supermarket brand- it is from Tesco! This cream can be found in any Tesco store( big stores, not Tesco Metro or Express) in the cosmetic aisle with the deodorants and tablets.
BUY IT HERE

OVERALL
I can't see Along Came Betty replacing my beloved Hand Food but this product is a serious dupe to consider if you can not get you hands on Soap and Glory. Really, the only down side to ACM is its touch of greasiness which isn't too terrible, but I could definitely get used t0 it. Unlike the S&G, ACM actually takes care of my nails too! (plus!) by conditioning cuticles!

I love both these products and I have to give honour where honour is due!

Review: Sleek BB Cream 'Medium'

Hey Guys
please be sure to visit my new blog fionabrianne.blogspot.co.uk

Happy New Year! I can't believe how fast time has flown...still, here we are.
I know how much I have neglected to blog over the past few months and I am sorry, I will try my hardest to keep the blog up. But just as a reminder, in case you want to catch me more regulary, you can check out my Twitter and my NEW Youtube channel; my old Youtube channel is still live as well!

So, review time. Today, I am going to review the Sleek BB cream, which I picked up in around November.

The packaging
The product comes in a nice sleek box, but I was extremely impressed with the actual tubing. Its a thick almost solid plastic- which makes it easier to dispense, without a load shooting out. In all the product look far more expensive than it actually is. My favourite part of the packaging is the  flap cap top, which clicks shut, preventing product waste/spillage.
I am in the shade medium, and swatched on my hand, it looks as if the product is not the right colour for my skin; however me feet and hands are at least one shade lighter than my face. In the store I swatched a little on my cheek and went to out and about to shop just to see its true colour outside and test its wear.

Fresh faced, without makeup

APPLICATION
To show you two ways which I apply my BB Cream I will demonstrate its coverage using a Foundation brush and my fingertips.

Method 1: Foundation Brush ( Sigma Makeup F60)

To apply, I add a drop on the back of my hand, warm the product and apply from the centre of my face, brushing outwards in diagonals to cover all skin and not leave any holes
 RESULTS
BB Cream on left side of my face
The application with the foundation brush gives me a medium to full coverage, some of my acne scars are still visible, but I would usually cover these further with concealer. Since the BB Cream is more on the thick side, it takes alot longer to apply with a brush.
Side of face with BB Cream

Side without BB Cream

 Method 2:  Fingertips

To apply, I add product to the back of my hand and use my three middle fingers ( pointer, middle, ring) to apply from the inside of my face working product outwards by dabbing. For under my eyes, I dab with my ring finger only.

RESULTS

For me, the fingertip application applies a lot easier and it gives me a more flawless finish, especially around the eye area. The product 'melts' into my skin easier and I don't feel cake-y.
Full face

Powder

To set my BB cream I prefer to use a translucent powder so that the colour remains true. I apply this with my large powder brush (Sigma F30) and use the Collection 2000 Setting Powder

Wear of BB Cream ( combination skin)
The product lasts around 7 hours for me before I begin to feel oily. To stop this I either take off the product or use oil absorbing sheets. I would definitely recommend using a face primer beneath this makeup ( I use Nivea Express face primer) and the powder on top.

Availability
The product is £8.99 and available at any Sleek stand which is usually in Superdrugs or any local Afro-Caribbean hair shops( from my own experience) It can also be purchased online at http://www.sleekmakeup.com/face/bases/be-beautiful-blemish-balm

Overall, I am in love with this product, its the perfect balance between a tinted moisturiser and a foundation. The application means it can be used daily. The only negative would be its thickness, which could make it a little suffocating to skin during the hotter months

GlossyBox- September Maggie Li Edition!

Hey Guys!

My latest video on my Youtube channel has just gone LIVE! Its an unboxing for this month's edition of GlossyBox.
I know I 'done an unboxing since probably May, because I figured that it might get a bit boring, but I had to do this, because the box was just amazing!

Before you go any further, why not watch the video first?

PRODUCTS

Lady Gaga Fame Fragrance
I'm not actually a fan of Lady G but I had to say I was impressed when I first spotted this in the box. If I ever bought the fragrance, it wouldn't be because of who it was buy, but for the smell and the packaging which I think looks beautiful!
Rodial Glamoxy Snake Serum and 5-Minute Facial Sachets
These two products are for reducing wrinkles an fine lines, which I don't have a problem with.
Yet.
I'll admit that the 'snake serum' thing is  a bit scare, but the product looks trustworthy enough to try. I'm glad Glossybox included two samples per product, that why it will be much easier to test whether or not the product actually works.

Vichy Idealia Day Care Cream
According the little note GB gave in the box, this has just been launched by Vichy; and I have very high expectations for this. The tub is cold, juts like Pond's Cold Cream, which was a massive hit a few years ago, but obviously not as cheap. I already have a great skin care routine and for the moment, I don't think I will use it...
DEAL! Enter Vichy20 FOR 20% OFF a purchase at http://www.sempleandsemple.com/uk/brands/vichy/idealia.html

Maghrabian Hair Oil
A hair oil, that hails from Spain( I think) I'm soo glad that I got this this month since my existing argan oil is running dangerously low. Since it's only 10mls, this will probably become my traveling hair oil, which is perfect because it will fit in any makeup bag!

Balance Me Eye Cream
Lastly, an eye cream! Im not too big on eye creams, simply because I don't think I need them, but I guess prevention is better than cure! This is is from a brand which I haven't heard from which is exciting, because if I love it, I may just have a new favourite brand

Thats all for my box today!
